All 7 Matryoshkas are made from lime wood, gouache, handpainted with glossy lacquer finish. Each pattern is unique. Matryoshka dolls are carved individually out of soft wood and then brightly painted. The artist Gorbunova borrowed her designs from folk art, fairy tales and the artist's personal fantasies. Limited Production. This is a Traditional Russian Collectible Toy. Largest doll about 8" or 20cm tall. Russian craftsmen had a long tradition going back to the beginning of the century of creating handpainted Matryoshkas nesting dolls. Matryoshka was awarded a medal at the Paris Exhibition of Applied Arts as well as many other awards.
